It was a heart impluse that Eunice Kennedy Shriver followed, and in this context the idea of Special Olympics was born - an initiative for people with a handicap, for people who are different, for people who think and feel differently, whose heart does not less pulsate, just like the ones of every human being- maybe even more joyful, intense, embracing, involving.

Special Olympics is a movementthat connects, encourages and mobilizes people around the globe. It is an opportunity to develop a social and humaneactingsociety. Special Olympics offers opportunities to open one´s heart in action, to enrich life with emotional, appreciative impulses with the aim of opening up and bringing about new perspectives and views.

It is people driven by their heart who follow this impulse of origin, who respect people with mental handicap and multiple disabilities, who set goals with them and motivate and inspire them. For sports, for the movement in nature. To strengthen the self-confidence and achieve physical fitness. To outgrow themselves. To experience moments of happiness and feelings of security, self-respect and recognition - and, above all, to find safety in a considerate society.

With the aim of, in this regard, imagining the world as being more conscious, and as a source of inspiration for the future.

As host country of the Special Olympics World Winter Games Austria places itself outside national symbols of time, becomes a strong trigger for innovation for the idea of Special Olympics, serves the initiative, and with its „Impulses of the heart“ is sets exemplary motivating accents. Impulses, which should enthuse more and more people and organizations for this topic in the future.
