In 2012 the non-profit association "Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017" with its seat in Schladming was founded for the conduction and organization of the Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017.

At the general assembly on February 14th 2013 it has come to an unamious conclusion that the „Special Olympics 2017 non- profit GmbH“ was additionally founded for planning and operating the Games. There is a Supervisory Board which acts as controlling body of the Special Olympics 2017 non-profit GmbH.
